37 The UCW library aims to provide a set general purpose tools for programming
38 in the C language. In other words, to make writing of complex and very efficient
39 programs in plain C a pleasure.
41 It originated as a part of the Sherlock Holmes search engine,
42 but it is now developed separately.
44

Features

48
Internal and external sorting routines
49
Generic data structures (e.g., heaps, search trees, growing buffers)
50
Very efficient memory allocators
51
Event loop (watching over file descriptors, sub-processes, timers, and signals)
52
Configuration system
53
Modular system for configure scripts
55
Documentation system
56
… and many more
59

License

61 The library can be distributed and used under the terms of GNU Lesser Public License (LGPL),
62 either version 2 or any later version. Several modules are in public domain.

66 Most parts of the library were written by
67 Martin Mareš,
68 Robert Špalek,
70 and Michal Vaner.
72

Download

74 The latest release of LibUCW is version 5.0 (see release notes and online documentation).
76 It can be downloaded via HTTP or FTP.
78 The current development version can be checked out from our Git repository at
git://git.ucw.cz/libucw.git
,
79 or you can examine the repository through gitweb.

83 All bug reports, ideas for new features and other wishes are welcome at libucw-devel@ucw.cz. Patches are welcome even more ;-)
85 If you use the library to your pleasure, the authors will be glad to hear that at the same address.
87

Extra libraries

89 The package also contains several other libraries from the Sherlock Holmes project, which you might find useful.
90 So far, they are completely optional and not much documented.
92
libucw-charset – manipulation of character sets and UniCode categories
93
libucw-images – manipulation of images
94
libucw-xml – a lightning fast and flexible XML parser
